Areas of Practice

psychotherapy

Guided by cognitive behavioral theory and principles, I develop individualized treatment approaches for each client and their unique needs. With treatment options available from childhood to young adulthood, I offer developmentally-appropriate psychotherapy to address a range of social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. My services include generalized treatment for mood and anxiety disorders, as well as more specialized treatments for children with trauma experiences, developmental delays, and attention difficulties.

trauma-focused cbt (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for youth (ages 4-18) impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT, in 8-25 sessions with the child and caregiver, successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with trauma experiences. Although TF-CBT is highly effective at improving youth posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, a PTSD diagnosis is not required in order to receive this treatment. TF-CBT also effectively addresses many other trauma-related outcomes, including symptoms of anxiety and depression, disruptions in cognitive functioning, and behavioral problems. TF-CBT also works to improve the participating caregiver’s personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience. behavioral sleep medicine

Disrupted sleep, snoring, behavioral problems, and excessive daytime sleepiness are signs of a possible sleep disorder. Left untreated, children with sleeping disorders may have related health problems as adults. Further, children with bedtime struggles and night wakings can have difficulties with attention and focus in school, poor grades, conduct issues, and problems with emotional regulation. Behavioral sleep medicine aims to properly identify and diagnosis the cause of childhood sleep disruption and interventions are designed to regulate a child's sleep patterns, provide parent training, and treat the underlying causes of sleep difficulties, including co-morbid psychological conditions, environmental factors, and developmental considerations.
